Thompson City Clerk Date: September 24, 2003 Subject: Code Enforcement Board References: October 9, 2003 Agenda Enclosures: List of Members The Code Enforcement Board was created to issue orders having the force of law commanding whatever steps are necessary to bring a Code violation into compliance. Florida Statutes Section 162.05(2) requires members of the Code Enforcement Board to be residents of the City of Miami. City Code Section 2-812 states that whenever possible, the board is to consist of an architect, a businessperson, an engineer, a general contractor, a subcontractor, and a realtor. Pursuant to Florida Statutes Section 162(3)(b), all members serve three year terms. Pursuant to City Code Sec. 2-886(a), any board member shall be automatically removed if, in a given calendar year: (1) he/she is absent from three consecutive meetings; or (2) He/she is absent from four of the board's meetings. The provisions of this section may be waived by a four -fifths vote of the members of the full city commission. Four appointments are needed at this time: • Commissioner Sanchez has one nomination for regular seat currently held by Manuel Chamizo, who has exceeded the number of absences allowed per City Code. • Commissioner Gonzalez has one nomination for regular seat currently held by Adolfo Ramos, who has exceeded the number of absences allowed per City Code and the Code Enforcement Board declared his seat to be vacant. • The Commission At -Large has two appointments for alternate seat currently held by: o Paul Debesa who has exceeded the number of absences allowed per City Code. o Jose Angel Perdomo, who stated to the Code Enforcement Board Chairperson that he was unable to serve and the Board declared his seat vacant. For your convenience, we have included a copy of the current membership of said board. By copy of this memorandum, we are requesting the Agenda Office to place this issue on the October 9, 2003 Commission agenda.
