Thompson References: October 9, 2003 Agenda City Clerk Enclosures: List of Members The Committee on Beautification and Environment was created to encourage and to participate in projects that will enhance the natural beauty and ecological quality of Greater Miami. This committee consists of up to 50 official members, which the Commission appoints. Traditionally, the Commission has accepted a slate of nominees proffered by the committee chairperson, Mr. Stephen D. Pearson, with a waiver of the residency requirement for pertinent members. Attached is a copy of a letter from Mr. Pearson in connection with his recommendations for the committee. At the Commission meeting of July 17, 2003, eight appointments were made to this committee. The Commission At -Large is requested to appoint the names submitted by Mr. Pearson. Two waivers are needed for this board: 1. Four -fifths waiver of Section 2-884(b) of the City Code, which requires that board members either reside in the city, own real property in the city or maintain a business in the city to apply to the eight members appointed on July 17, 2003 (Lenny Goldstein, Gary Hunt, Penny Lambeth, Robert McCabe, Peter Ostrowsky, Albena Sumner, Joe Wilkins, Lottie Person, as needed) as well as the new members to be appointed today. 2. A unanimous affirmative vote of the members of the Commission, for a waiver of Section 2-885(b) of the City Code, which provides that no member shall serve more than eight consecutive years on any one board, for the first nine nominees listed below. Mr. Pearson's nominees are: 1. George Childs (has served as a member since July 26, 1994) 2. Willis Harding (has served as a member since July 26, 1994) 3. Ruth Hopkins -Rosenthal (has served as a member since July 26, 1994) 4. Steve Pearson (has served as a member since July 26, 1994) 5. Carmen Petsoules (has served as a member since July 26, 1994) 6. Larry Schokman (has served as a member since July 26, 1994) 7. Robert H. Smith (has served as a member since July 26, 1994) 8. Betty Waldor (has served as a member since July 26, 1994) 9. Suzanne Salichs 10. Peter Nagy For your convenience, we are including a copy of the current membership of the committee. By copy of this memorandum, we are requesting the Agenda Office to place this issue on the October 9, 2003 Commission agenda. This matter was deferred from the June 12, 2003 and the July 17, 2003 Commission meetings.
