Subject: Amendment of the City Code Section 62-31 to align dates for Comprehensive Plan
Amendments and Miami 21 Atlas Amendments.
Purpose of Item:
Amending Chapter 62 of the Code of the City of Miami, entitled "Zoning and Planning" to update
section 62-31 "Applications for Plan Amendments", aligning the date for comprehensive plan
amendments and Miami 21 Atlas Amendments with the objective of fully utilizing the two plan
amendment opportunities in a calendar year as provided by Chapter 163.3187, FS.
Background Information:
The City of Miami's newly adopted Zoning Ordinance No. 13114 (Miami 21 Code) requires City
Commission to set semiannual Application dates for zoning amendments, per Article 7.1.2.8 b.1.
Related zoning and land use applications must run concurrently in order to maintain consistency with
the City of Miami Comprehensive Neighborhood Plan and Florida Statute. Large Scale Amendments
are made pursuant to Chapter 163.3187 FS, which are subject to not more than two times during any
calendar year. Schedule for amendments is found in 62-31 of the City Code. Amendments to this
section aligns amendments of the Miami 21 Atlas and Comprehensive Plan, Future Land Use Map,
(FLUM).
