Thompson City Clerk Date: August 31, 2010 Subject: Fire Fighters' and Police Officers' Retirement Trust References: September 16, 2010 Agenda Enclosures: List of members, nominations The Fire Fighters' and Police Officers' (FIPO) Retirement Trust was created to provide retirement benefits pursuant to the provisions of City Code Chapter 40, Division 2; to establish and maintain functions as are necessary to administer, manage and operate the retirement plan. There are nine (9) members on said Trust, appointed as follows: • One trustee selected by the City Manager • Two trustees selected by fire fighters • Two trustees selected by police officers • Four trustees selected by the City Commission (two of which are selected from list of six individuals submitted by Miami Association of Fire Fighters; and two selected from list of six individuals submitted by the Fraternal Order of Police). Four (4) appointments are required at this time. • The Commission -At -Large is requested to appoint two members from the list submitted by the Miami Association of Fire Fighters (see attached letter for its recommendation(s)) for seats currently held by: 1. Monica Fernandez, incumbent, whose term expired on 9/10/2009. 2. Vacant since 2/23/2010 Awaiting memo of proffered name(s) from the Miami Association of Fire Fighters. • The Commission -At -Large is requested to appoint two (2) members from the list submitted by the Fraternal Order of Police for seats currently held by: 1. Gerald Darling, incumbernt, whose term expired on 09/10/2009. 2. Ornel Cotera, incumbent, whose term expired on 9/10/2009. The Fraternal Order of Police submitted the following six (6) individuals for commission approval of two appointments. 1. Ornel Cotera (incumbent) 2. Thomas Roell 3. Mark Wisner 4. Eugene Gibbens 5. Hector Mirabile 6. Robert Jenkins For your convenience, we have included a copy of the current membership of said board. By copy of this memorandum, we are requesting the Agenda Office to place this issue on the September 16, 2010 Commission agenda.
