Agency for a Police Visibility Program
Purpose of Item:
A Resolution of the Miami City Commission authorizing the acceptance of a grant from the Southeast
Overtown/Park West (SEOPW) Redevelopment District Community Redevelopment Agency, in an
amount not to exceed $500,000, to fund the cost of a police visibility program for the Southeast
Overtown/Park West area; authorizing the City Manager to execute the grant agreement and all
documents necessary for said purpose. No match is required.
Background Information:
The City of Miami Police Department submitted a proposal to continue the enhanced police visibility in
the SEOPW CRA and requested funding for the cost associated with the operation of a Police Visibility
Program. On June 28, 2010, the Board of Commissioners of the SEOPW passed Resolution No. 10-
0052 authorizing the award of a grant, in an amount not to exceed $500,000. This Police Visibility
Program consists of enhanced police services including, increased patrols, assistance to homeless in
obtaining services from local agencies and an increase in the number of special operations. As a
result, residents will enjoy an enhanced sense of security and improved quality of life.
