AGENDA ITEM SUMMARY FORM CONTINUED
Background Information:
Pursuant to the Military Construction Appropriations and Emergency Hurricane Supplemental
Appropriations Act, Community Development Block Grant ("CDBG") disaster relief funding was made
available to the State by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.
In 2006, Miami -Dade County ("County") was allocated the amount of $16,000,000, to be shared by
all municipalities in the County based on need and the project of which the City of Miami was
awarded $2,000,000.
In August of 2007, Miami -Dade County received an additional $22 million under the same
appropriation for projects in the County.
The City of Miami has been allocated $2,776,264 for projects which has already been pre -approved
by the County.
This additional funding will allow the City to assist additional applicants with disaster recovery.
The administration recommends the acceptance from Miami Dade County the amount of $2,776,264
in CDBG funds in connection to the Disaster Relief Program for disaster recovery and infrastructure
repair or improvement for eligible multifamily project that suffered damages during the 2005
hurricane season.
