Subject: Resolution accepting federal funds for four Miami River Greenway projects and authorize the City
Mannecessary in order to obiiiiate and utilize the
funds.
Purpose of Item:
To accept funds and authorize the City Manager to execute four Local Agency Program (LAP) Agreements with the
Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) for upcoming Miami River Greenway projects.
Background Information:
The City of Miami (City) applied for and was awarded federal grants for four Miami River Greenway (Greenway)
projects. FDOT will serve as the pass through for the federal funds. LAP agreements with FDOT will be required
in the various amounts in order to access the funding awards. The Greenway Projects will provide outdoor
recreational opportunities and an alternative transportation corridor for people living and working along the river to
easily and safely walk or bike to mass transit connectors. The grants are consistent with the Miami River
Greenways Action Plan, adopted in principle by the City in May 2001, and follow the Miami River Greenway
design guidelines. Currently, we expect the projects to be funded in these amounts as they are included in the
FDOT five year work program. The City Manager requests authority to accept funds and execute the necessary
LAP agreements in their final federally approved amounts. Funds are to be appropriated by separate resolution(s).
