HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-10-0329Vop City of Miami W F .. is,.,"�, *'Ir Legislation i 0 R �O Resolution: R-10-0329 File Number: 10-00866 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com Final Action Date: 7/22/2010 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION CODESIGNATING NORTHWEST 10TH STREET FROM NORTHWEST 3RD AVENUE TO NORTHWEST 4TH AVENUE, MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS "WILLIS-RICHARDSON STREET;" FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO INSTRUCT THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE HEREIN DESIGNATED OFFICES. WHEREAS, Arthy Willis was one of the African-American signers of the Charter incorporating the City of Miami in 1896; WHEREAS, he was a successful businessman who owned several parcels of land which made him one of the wealthiest African-Americans in the City of Miami; and WHEREAS, his daughter, Arthe Willis -Richardson, along with her husband opened the first African-American owned funeral home in 1926, making it the oldest such funeral business still in existence; and WHEREAS, in 1996, BellSouth commemorated Arthy Willis in its African-American history calendar; and WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to commemorate Arthy Willis as one of the first prominent African-Americans in the City of Miami; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. Northwest 10th Street from Northwest 3rd Avenue to Northwest 4th Avenue, Miami, Florida, is codesignated as "Willis -Richardson Street". Section 3. The City Manager is directed to instruct the Director of Public Works to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the Departments of Police, Fire -Rescue, Solid Waste, Miami -Dade County Public Works, and the United States Postal Service. Section 4.
