Bru, City Attorney/ DATE: June 24, 2010 RE: Proposed Second Reading Ordinance -July 8, 2010 City Commission Meeting Changing the qualifying period for the November 2, 2010, election pursuant to the City Charter (File No. 10-00727) The attached proposed second reading Ordinance, changes the qualifying time for the November 2, 2010 elections required for the Offices of Commissioner for District One and District Five, pursuant to the City Charter. In accordance with the Miami -Dade County Elections Department, if a municipality wishes to conduct a special election along with one of the countywide elections listed below, a Resolution or Ordinance to call a Special Election must be passed no less than 60, no more than 120 days prior to the date of the election. However, in order to meet state -mandated deadlines for the state write-in ballot and to mail absentee ballots to overseas voters, the deadline to submit a resolution/ordinance to the Elections Department must follow the revised dates listed below. 1 he tollowing schedule deadlines must be followed: PRIMARY ELECTION No later than June 18, 2010 August 24, 2010 GENERAL ELECTION No later than August 20, 2010 November 2, 2010 No later than June 18, 2010 No later than August 20, 2010 * Qualifying dates must not exceed the June 18, 2010, and Aulzust 20, 2010 deadlines as listed above. cc: Carlos A.
