Subject: Resolution Officially Naming the Month of July 2010 as "Parks and Recreation Month.
Purpose of Item:
A Resolution of the City of Miami Commission officially naming the month of July 2010 as "Parks
and Recreation Month," in continuation of a tradition established in 1985 celebrating the month of
July as the official parks and recreation month of the year, in recognition of public parks and park
agencies in the City that provide public services and recreational opportunities throughout the
community designed to improve the health and welfare of city residents; provide environmental
stewardship for public lands and children's access to nature as part of a national policy; further
supporting the objectives of the National Recreation and Park Association.
Background Information:
The Department of Parks and Recreation recommends that the City of Miami Commission adopt the
attached resolution officially naming the month of July 2010 as "Parks and Recreation Month" in
support of the national policies of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) which will
benefit the residents of the City of Miami through the development of recreational facilities and
increased recreational opportunities for all residents.
