Background Information:
Miami Bethany Community Services, Inc. ("Miami Bethany"), located at 2490 Northwest 35th Street,
Miami, is an agency dedicated to the holistic - physical, emotional and spiritual - empowerment of
the underserved communities of Greater Miami and the Allapattah area.
Pursuant to Resolution No. 05-0477, adopted July 28, 2005, the Miami City Commission approved
the allocation of $60,000 to Miami Bethany for public facilities and improvements to build a
commercial kitchen for the after school program serving low to moderate income children in the
Allapattah area.
Pursuant to Resolution No. 06-0649, adopted November 9, 2006, the Miami City Commission
approved the extension of the contract to September 30, 2007.
Pursuant to Resolution No. 07-0695, adopted December 13, 2007, the Miami City Commission
approved the extension of the contract to September 30, 2008 and the rollover of the funds.
Miami Bethany was unable to complete the project by the contract date due to increasing
construction costs resulting from bringing the whole facility up to code.
On March 20, 2010, Miami Bethany requested permission to utilize the funding for the installation
and upgrade of the playground facility currently being used by the children attending the childcare
and after school program.
The Administration recommends amending the scope of work for this project and to extend the term
of the contract to September 30, 2011 to allow Miami Bethany to install and upgrade the playground
facility being used by the after school program.
