Purpose of Item: Law Department Matter ID No. Adoption of a Resolution authorizing the City Manager to purchase the "Rockerman Canal" located east of South Bayshore Drive on the north side of David T. Kennedy Park, for $32,442.47, as contemplated in Resolution No. 10-0034, and to accept a deed from Mr. Alonso-Poch, property owner at 3520 Rockerman Road, for the "Rockerman Canal." Background Information: The City of Miami owns the shoreline on the south side of the "Rockerman Canal' and is responsible for the maintenance of that portion of the canal and control of the storm water run-off from David T. Kennedy Park into the Canal. The City has negotiated an agreement, formalized by the creation of a "Special Assessment District," with the homeowners on the north side of the canal to share the maintenance responsibility for the canal. Acceptance of a deed for the ownership of the "Rockerman Canal" is essential in order to apply for the required environmental permits to properly maintain the canal, apply for funding grants and to provide the general public with the recreational access to the canal from David T.
