Law Department Commission Meeting Date: 03/25/2010 District Impacted: citywide Matter ID No. Type: ® Resolution ElOrdinance ❑ Emergency Ordinance ❑ Discussion Item I0-779 ❑ Other Subject: Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND) Grant Application for Derelict Vessel Removal Project Purpose of Item: A Resolution of the Miami City Commission, with attachments, authorizing the City Manager to submit an application for grant funding to the Florida Inland Navigation District ("FIND") Waterways Assistance Program, in an amount not to exceed $20,000 for derelict vessel removal ("Project'); authorizing the allocation of the required matching funds for fifty-six percent (56%) of the project costs, in an amount not to exceed $25,000, to be provided by CIP Project Number 40-830596 (Account Number 34000.221001.670000.0000.00000); authorizing the City Manager to execute any other necessary documents for the submission of said grant application for fiscal year 2010-2011. Background Information: The Office of Grants Administration is seeking City Commission authorization to apply for grant funding from FIND to remove derelict vessels for a project not to exceed $45,000. The City's Marine Patrol Department has identified 30 abandoned and/or derelict vessels in City of Miami public waterways that pose an immediate threat to the environment, public health and safety, and navigation. Assistance from FIND will help the City to remove and properly dispose of environmentally hazardous materials and alleviate hazardous navigational conditions. Environmental hazards consist of contaminants from fiberglass, fuel, oil, and other submerged debris. Budget Impact Analysis NO Is this item related to revenue? YES Is this item an expenditure?
