The Virginia Key Beach Park Trust was created to preserve the Virginia Key Beach Park in cooperation
with the Department of Parks and Recreation and other City departments in a manner consistent with the
environmental health, public use, historical importance of the Park and the aspirations of the African
American community and shall propose policy, planning, and design to ensure maximum community
utilization, enjoyment, and maintenance of the Park as an open green space compatible with its historical
and recreational characteristics and accessible to the public. Ordinance 13065, adopted on May 14, 2009,
which amended Chapter 38, Article 6 of the City Code, authorized the waiver of the eight -consecutive year
term limitation to allow members of the Virginia Key Beach Park Trust to be reconsidered annually for an
additional one-year term by a unanimous vote of the members of the City Commission.
Five (5) appointments are needed at this time:*
• Commissioner Wifredo (Willy) Gort has one (1) nomination for a seat currently held by:
1. Maud Newbold, incumbent, whose term expired on February 7, 2009, has served as a
member since 02/08/2001 and would require a term waiver by a unanimous (5/5ths) vote of
the Commission.
• Commissioner Francis Suarez has one (1) nomination for a seat currently held by:
1. Sue Germain, incumbent, whose term expires on February 11, 2011.
• Commissioner Richard Dunn II has one (1) nomination for a seat currently held by:
1. Erika McKinney, incumbent, whose term expired on February 7, 2009.
• The Commission -at -Large has two (2) nominations. These seats are currently held by:
1. Vacancy, since January 13, 2010 due to resignation of Bruce Matheson.
2. Enid C. Pinkney, incumbent, whose term expired February 7, 2009, has served as a member
since February 8, 2001 and would require a term waiver by a unanimous (5/5ths) vote of the
Commission.
For your convenience, we are including a copy of the membership of the Trust. By copy of this
memorandum, we are requesting the Agenda Office to place this issue on the March 11, 2010
Commission agenda.
