AGENDA ITEM SUMMARY FORM CONTINUED
Background Information:
Previous years' Community Development Block Grant ("CDBG") funds allocated to various agencies
for program delivery and administration retained unused balances, in the amount of $1,000,000, as
specified in Exhibit "A", attached and incorporated.
The close out of these unused balances allows the Department of Community Development to
recapture the funds to be used for other CDBG eligible activities.
The Little Havana area urgently requires a facility for community residents to seek assistance with
City services and to conduct meetings and activities.
The Little Havana Community Center will have community room for meetings, a computer lab for
use by residents and a Neighborhood Enhancement Team ("NET") office to serve residents of the
i area.
The allocation of these funds will be contingent upon the approval of the office of the United States
Department of Housing and Urban Development ("HUD").
The Administration recommends the transfer in the amount of $1,000,000, from previous year's
CDBG close-out funds, and the allocation of said funds to CIP for the reconstruction of the Little
Havana Community Center.
