Director Chief City Manager Page I of 1 AGENDA ITEM SUMMARY FORM CONTINUED Background Information: Pursuant to the Military Construction Appropriations and Emergency Hurricane Supplemental Appropriations Act, Community Development Block Grant ("CDBG") disaster relief funding was made available to the State by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. Miami -Dade County ("County") was allocated the amount of $16,000,000, to be shared by all municipalities in the County based on need and the project. Pursuant to Resolution No. 07-0131, adopted March 8, 2007, the Miami City Commission gave the City Manager the authority to accept a Community Development Block Grant ("CDBG") in the amount of $2,000,000 from Miami Dade County for the Disaster Recovery Program. Said funds was to be utilized to provide rehabilitation assistance to ten multi -family properties that were damaged due to the hurricanes. On September 11, 2007, a contract between the City of Miami and Miami -Dade County was executed for the purpose of providing CDBG funds for the rehabilitation of the multifamily properties with an expiration date of June 30, 2008. Pursuant to Resolution No. 09-0216, adopted May 14, 2009, the Miami City Commission approved the extension of the $2,000,000 CDBG contract between the County and the City for the Disaster Recovery Program from June 30, 2008 to December 31, 2009. The administration recommends the approval of the extension of the contract between the County and the City for the Disaster Recovery Program from December 31, 2009 to June 30, 2010 and authorizes the City Manager to execute an amendment of the contract for the extension of the $2,000,000 CDBG contract.
