A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION URGING GOVERNOR
CHARLIE CRIST AND THE MEMBERS OF THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE TO
CODESIGNATE SOUTHWEST 27TH AVENUE FROM SOUTHWEST 22ND
STREET TO US -1, MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS "HERBERT LEE SIMON AVENUE;"
FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS
RESOLUTION TO THE HEREIN DESIGNATED OFFICES.
WHEREAS, Herbert Lee Simon, a member of a family of realtors, began selling real estate at the
age of eighteen; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Simon served as the President of the Miami Board of Realtors for three terms;
and
WHEREAS, among his many contributions, Mr. Simon introduced the plat book service to
Miami -Dade County;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by
reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The Miami City Commission urges Governor Charlie Crist and the members of the
Florida Legislature to codesignate Southwest 27th Avenue from Southwest 22nd Street to US -1, Miami
Florida, as "Herbert Lee Simon Avenue."
Section 3. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Governor Charlie
Crist, Senate President Jeff Atwater, Speaker of the House Larry Cretul, the Chair and Members of the
Miami -Dade State Legislative Delegation, and Stephanie C. Kopelousos, the Secretary of the Florida
Department of Transportation.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature
of the Mayor.{1 }

{1} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days
from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become
effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
