Director Chief City Manager, Page 1 of 1 AGENDA ITEM SUMMARY FORM CONTINUED Background Information: 'Action Community Center, Inc. ("Action") is a non-profit corporation that provides transportation services to low to moderate income elderly individuals. The City of Miami Department of Community Development exercised the option to extend public service contracts for an additional year to agencies providing they had met their contractual obligations. Pursuant to Resolution No. 09-0296, adopted June 18, 2009, the Miami City Commission approved the allocation of Community Development Block Grant (" CDBG) funds to said agencies. Action had been funded with the Peoples Transportation Plan one-half cent transit tax and the General fund for the last four years. Due to the budget shortfall, the City was unable to award funding from the General Funds to Action. On December 4, 2009, the City received a request from Action for immediate funding to continue the provision of transportation services to elderly who have come to rely on them for their transportation needs. The Administration recommends the transfer of CDBG funds in the amount of $60,000, from the City of Miami Department of Community Development Program Income and allocating said funds to Action, as specified in Exhibit "A", attached and incorporated, for public service activities to provide elderly transportation services.
