'urpose of Item:
It is respectfully recommended that the Honorable Mayor and the City Commission adopt the attached
resolution authorizing the City Manager to apply for a grant funded by the American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act (ARRA) in an amount not to exceed $24,000 from the State of Florida, Department
of Agricultural and Consumer Affairs, Division of Forestry to improve the City's tree canopy. There
is no match required.
Background Information:
The Request for Proposals (RFP) issued by the State of Florida for this grant requires a Resolution
passed by the governing body to apply for the grant.
The City of Miami adopted a Tree Master Plan, which aims to increase the tree canopy to 30% by
2017. This grant opportunity is in line with the master plan, allowing for tree plantings in urban areas.
