City Commission
Subject: Code Enforcement Board
From: Priscilla A. Thompson

Enclosures: List of members
The Code Enforcement Board was created to issue orders having the force of law commanding
whatever steps are necessary to bring a Code violation into compliance.
Florida Statutes Section 162.05(2) requires members of the Code Enforcement Board to be
residents of the City of Miami. City Code Section 2-812 states that whenever possible, the
board is to consist of an architect, a businessperson, an engineer, a general contractor, a
subcontractor, and a realtor.
Three (3) appointments are needed at this time:
• Vice Chair Spence -Jones has one (1) nomination:
1. Vacancy (seat formerly held by Leroy Jones, incumbent, who was no longer eligible
to serve per legal opinion as he was not a City resident).
• Commissioner Gonzalez has one (1) nomination:
1. Tatiana Gort, incumbent, whose term expires on February 11, 2012, has exceeded the
number of allowed absences (8 in 2009) and would require a 4/5ths waiver of
attendance.
• The Commission -at -Large has one (1) nomination:
1. Vacancy (Alternate -at -Large Harry Gottlieb was appointed as a regular member on
May 14, 2009). *
For your convenience, we have included a copy of the current membership of said board. By copy
of this memorandum, we are requesting the Agenda Office to place this issue on the October 8,
2009 Commission agenda. *This matter was deferred from the June 11, 2009 and September 10,
2009 Commission meetings.
