HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-09-0591Vop City of Miami W F .. is,.,"�, * Legislation i 0 R �O Resolution: R-09-0591 File Number: 09-01439 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com Final Action Date: 12/17/2009 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION REQUESTING SUPPORT FROM MAYOR TOMAS REGALADO AND THE CITY MANAGER TO TAKE ALL STEPS NECESSARY TO USE ALL RESOURCES AT THEIR DISPOSAL TO FIND A MUTUALLY ACCEPTABLE RESOLUTION TO PREVENT THE DEMOLITION OF THE ICONIC STRUCTURE KNOWN AS THE PALM BAY TOWERS, LOCATED AT 720 NORTHEAST 69TH STREET, MIAMI, FLORIDA. WHEREAS, the Palm Bay Towers is a 27 story condominium located at 720 Northeast 69 Street, Miami, Florida, just north of Legion Park; and WHEREAS, with approximately 65-70 units ranging in size from 1,900 square feet to over 6,000 square feet, the Palm Bay Towers has been home to well-known families and individuals for years; and WHEREAS, on December 3, 2009, the residents of the Palm Bay Towers were notified in writing by the City of Miami that the power would be cut off and that the building would be demolished on January 3, 2010; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble of this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The Miami City Commission requests support from Mayor Tomas Regalado and the City Manager to take all steps necessary to use all resources at their disposal to find a mutually acceptable resolution to prevent the demolition of the iconic structure known as the Palm Bay Towers, located at 720 Northeast 69th Street, Miami, Florida. Section 3. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
