HomeMy WebLinkAboutExhibit 2CITY OF MIAMI FY 2011 FEDERAL REQUESTS APPROPRIATIONS PROJECTS Mobile Crime Scene Lab: Request Amount: $250,000 Project requires a vehicle that would serve as a platform to permit the proper and methodical conduct of crime scene investigations at complicated, lengthy and extended scenes. These scenes require the mobile use of specialized equipment and supplies that are not readily carried in ordinary MPD vehicles. The vehicle would serve as a platform for major and capital scenes. These scenes involve shootings, homicides, arson and terror scenes such as bombings. Tasks performed using this platform would enhance the investigative and prosecutorial efforts of the Miami Police Department. Stormwater Project: Request Amount: $1,500,000 • Received $600,000 in the FY10 Homeland Security Appropriations Bill • Received $1,000,000 in the FY09 Omnibus Project will implement storm water drainage projects throughout the City of Miami to mitigate flood conditions to reduce flood damage and increase public safety. This would be a good use of taxpayer money because this project will significantly mitigate flood conditions caused by local storms and will result in a reduction of flood damage and an increase in public safety for the City of Miami. Elderly Assistance Program Request Amount: $500,000 requested (IRL) in FY08 in Labor HHS, but received no funding. Program will enable Miami to provide valuable meal services to this community, one that heavily relies on these subsidized programs as their sole source of food and nutrition. Poverty Reduction Initiative - Financial Literacy: Request Amount: $750,000 Funding would be used for multi-year project to advance formal banking, financial and credit management skills education programming as a basis for homeownership and asset accumulation for low -moderate income Miami residents. Implementation via Office of Economic Development Initiatives/ACCESS Miami who will collaborate with the City's faith and community based organizations for maximum community outreach and impact. Small Business Support (Retrofit): Request Amount: $1,500,000 This initiative would target the small business communities in neighborhood commercial corridors citywide for renewable energy retrofits. Program would enhance deployment of green, energy efficient alternative energy facades and signage including solar power to advance small business green conversion in pursuit of the City's climate protection and carbon footprint reduction goals. AUTHORIZATION PROJECTS Wagner Creek & Seybold Canal Dredging Project: Request Amount: $16,900,000 This project will significantly reduce the dioxins (a hazardous chemical that are bound to the sediments) as a result from dredging operations. The Wagner Creek is a tributary of the Miami River via the Seybold Canal that connects to Biscayne Bay. Biscayne Bay is a South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) priority water body. By dredging the water bodies, the City will be increasing the storm water conveyance capacity, therefore, reducing flood conditions in the adjacent neighborhoods caused from typical storm events. This will help mitigate flood damage, reduce flood damage insurance claims and increase public safety. • Project cannot receive appropriated funds until authorized through WRDA, which is expected to move in early 2010. Project requests will be submitted to members by November 30t'". South Bayshore Drive Request Amount: $12,000,000 Design and Construct roadway, drainage, lighting, landscaping, and multimodal improvements to South Bayshore Drive from Main Highway to US -1. • Project was submitted with the House HPP requests for the Highway bill by Meek and IRi_. • Currently pending House/Senate extensions of this authorization. House T&I Chairman Oberstar is looking for a short two month extension, while Senate EPW Chair Boxer and Ranking Member Inhofe are pushing for a 6 month extension into next spring.
