HomeMy WebLinkAboutMemo 9-24-09Memo To: The Honorable Manual Diaz and membe of the City of Miami Commission Fronx David Shorter, Executive Director CC: Board of Trustees, Virginia Key Beach Park Trust, Pete Hernandez, City Manager, Michael Boudreaux, Chief of Strategic Planning, Budgeting and Performance Date: June 30, 2009 Re: Fiscal Year 2010 Operating and Capital Improvement Budget Recommendation The Board of Trustees of Virginia Key Beach Park Trust, (the "Trust") request that the City Commission approve the General Operating Funds for the Fiscal Year 2010 in the amount of $1,125,000 Budget Summary The $1,125,000 requested from the General Fund for FY 2010 is $125,000 less than the $1,250,000 allocated in FY 2009 and $511,301.00 less than the actual amount needed as requested in our original FY 2010 budget submission. Assumptions made in this "amended" development of the FY 2010 budget are: • Development (fund raising of the Trust) revenue is estimated to be $200,000 • Event Revenues generated by the Trust is estimated to be $100,000 • Park Operation revenue is estimated to be $70,000. • Two staff positions are eliminated The followina are Sianificant Accomplishments in FY 2009 1. Carousel fundraising match from Commissioner Samoff 2. Commencement of Exhibit design for indoor and outdoor museum components 3. Visitor visits that exceed our anticipation 4. Received Children Trust award for providing exemplary Summer Youth Camp Maior obiectives for FY 2010. • The attached budget provides detailed information regarding the General Funds needed for our FY '10 budget. It should be noted that there are numerous ongoing capital improvements projects that are funded through Homeland Defense Bonds. Re -distribution of 600,000 CY of sand • Formatting approximately 40 acres of raw land use into beach landscaped design • Installation of buoys that will designated a "no boating" safety zone • Installation of a safe swim area on the beach Refurbish of historical buildings on the National Register • Start of Museum Design • Installation of nature trails and signage for such • Installation of signage that defines the history of the location and the natural resources of the land • Release a RFP for Museum construction 9 Page 2
