Purpose of Item: It is respectfully recommended that the Honorable Mayor and the City Commission adopt the attached resolution authorizing the City Manager to ratify the acceptance of the United States Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) grant award to the City of Miami and establish a new special revenue project entitled:"EPA Brownfields Job Training Grant", in the amount of $500,000. Background Information: In April of 2009, Economic Initiatives which manages Brownfield assessment and cleanup projects, submitted an application for an EPA Job Training Grant on the City's behalf. In August of 2009, the EPA officially awarded the City of Miami its seventh grant award, the EPA Brownfield Job Training Grant which is being funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The EPA Brownfield Job Training Grant seeks to employ residents and facilitate the cleanup of Brownfields by providing free Environmental/"Green Job" technical training to a total of 120 City residents over nine 16 week training cyles (3 years).
