HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislationFile Number: 09-01227 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S), ADDING THE PALM BEACH COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE AS A PARTICIPATING AGENCY IN THE MIAMI URBAN AREA SECURITY INITIATIVE ("UASI") GRANT 2008 TO RESOLUTION NO. 09-0413, ADOPTED SEPTEMBER 10, 2009; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT, IN SUBSTANTIALLY THE ATTACHED FORM WITH THE PALM BEACH COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE, SETTING FORTH THE PARTIES' RESPONSIBILITIES IN CONNECTION WITH THE DEVELOPMENT AND SUPPORT OF THE UASI PROJECT ADMINISTERED BY THE CITY OF MIAMI DEPARTMENT OF FIRE -RESCUE, WITH FUNDS ALLOCATED, AS STIPULATED IN RESOLUTION NO. 09-0413, FOR HOMELAND SECURITY EXPENSES PURSUANT TO THE UASI GUIDELINES. WHEREAS, the United States Department of Homeland of Homeland Security ("USDHS"), is authorized by the Emergency Wartime Supplemental Appropriations Act 2003, to provide funds to states for subsequent distribution to selected urban areas to address the unique equipment, training, planning, exercise and operational needs for large urban areas, and to assist them in building an enhanced and sustainable capacity to prevent, respond to, and recover from threats or acts or terrorism; and WHEREAS, the USDHS, through the State of Florida Division of Emergency Management, has sub -granted an Urban Area Security Initiative ("UASI") Grant Project 2008 to the City of Miami ("City"), in the amount of $11,271,885, accepted pursuant to Resolution No. 09-0413, adopted September 10, 2009; and WHEREAS, the Palm Beach County Sheriffs Office was indavertently omitted as an UASI Grant 2008 Agency from Resolution No. 09-0413, and it is necessary to add this agency to the Resolution and to authorize the City Manager to execute a Memorandum of Agreement that establishes said agency as a participating UASI Agency, setting forth the parties' responsibilities in connection with the support for the UASI Project administered by the City's Department of Fire -Rescue; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The Palm Beach County Sheriffs Office is added to Resolution No. 09-0413, adopted September 10, 2009, as a participating Miami UASI Grant 2008 Agency. Section 3. BRU CITY ATTORNEY Footnotes: {1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. {2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted.
