REQUEST/LOCATION Citywide
PETITION An ordinance of the Miami City Commission
amending Ordinance No. 11000, as amended,
the Zoning Ordinance of the City of Miami,
Florida, to create Section 952 entitled "Heat
Island Effect — Non Roof" to add sections that
provide for environmentally -responsible methods
for cooling and shading of hardscapes in City of
Miami; containing a severability clause; and
providing for an effective date.
PLANNING RECOMMENDATION Approval.
BACKGROUND AND ANALYSIS This ordinance is intended to reduce the heat
island effect in the City of Miami by requiring that
at least 50% of the hardscape surfaces (1) use
reflective hardscape materials, (2) provide
shading for hardscapes within 5 years, (3) use
vegetative paving systems, or (4) some
combination of the above.
PLANNING ADVISORY BOARD Recommended approval on September 16, 2009
by a vote of 7-0.
CITY COMMISSION October 8, 2009. Continued from City
