About AAHOA
The Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA) is THE voice of hotel owners in the
hospitality industry. Founded in 1989, AAHOA is one of the fastest-growing organizations in the
industry, with over 9,700 members owning more than 22,000 hotels that total $60 billion in
property value. AAHOA Officers include Chairman Tarun S. Patel, CHA; Vice Chairman
ChandraKant "C.K." Patel, CHO; Treasurer Hemant D. "Henry" Patel; Secretary Alkesh R. "Al"
Patel, CHO; and President Fred Schwartz, who work closely with a 33 -member Board of
Directors to provide direction for the association.
AAHOA is dedicated to promoting and protecting the interests of its members by inspiring
excellence through programs and initiatives in advocacy, industry leadership, professional
development, member benefits, and community involvement. AAHOA accomplishes this by
engaging in advocacy efforts at the federal, state and local levels, establishing fair franchising
standards for the industry, providing year-round educational programs such as the Certified Hotel
Owners Program (CHO) and Leadership Conference, securing valuable products and services for
its members, and engaging in humanitarian and community efforts. For more information, please
call 404-816-5759 or visit www.aahoa.com.
AAHOA's Legislative Priorities
• Opposing legislative mandates, such as the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA), also
known as the Card Check bill, which adversely impact the ability of small business
owners and their employees to work together towards their mutual interests of
maintaining a successful business and equitable workplace;
• Supporting travel and tourism initiatives (including the Travel Promotion Act), which
promote travel to the United States as a premier destination for foreign tourists, and yield
billions of dollars a year in new economic funds and generate hundreds of millions of
dollars in additional federal tax revenue each year;
• Ensuring that small business owners, their families and their employees have access to
adequate and affordable health care;
• Advocating for fair franchising laws;
• Addressing frivolous lawsuits filed against hotel owners under the guise of ADA
enforcement; and
• Opposing legislation, such as new and increased taxes and penalties, which could have a
significant financial impact on small business owners, and make it difficult for them to
maintain their businesses and pay their employees fair wages and corresponding benefits.
AAHOA Political Action Committee (PAC)
AAHOA's Political Action Committee (PAC) allows AAHOA members to work closely with
national leaders who support the lodging industry, small business owners and the Indian
American community. Through its PAC, AAHOA can ensure it has a strong voice in the
decision-making process concerning the nature and quality of the laws that impact its members'
businesses and their community.
