HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislationCity of Miami y Legislation Resolution File Number: 09-01140 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S), ESTABLISHING A NEW SPECIAL REVENUE PROJECT ENTITLED: " FISCAL YEAR 2009 EDWARD BYRNE MEMORIAL JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT (JAG) PROGRAM," CONSISTING OF A GRANT AWARD FROM THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, OFFICE OF JUSTICE PROGRAMS, BUREAU OF JUSTICE ASSISTANCE, IN THE AMOUNT OF $622,722, TO PROVIDE FUNDING TO IMPLEMENT AND EXPAND TWO (2) PROJECTS TO INCLUDE, TECHNOLOGY ACQUISITION AND EQUIPMENT IMPROVEMENT, AND THE ADDITION OF CANINES (K -9S); AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE GRANT AGREEMENT, IN SUBSTANTIALLY THE ATTACHED FORM, AND ANY OTHER DOCUMENTS IN ORDER TO IMPLEMENT THE ACCEPTANCE AND ADMINISTRATION OF SAID GRANT AWARD. WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") has been awarded a grant, in the amount of $622,722, to implement and expand two projects to include the technology acquisition and equipment improvement, and the addition of canines (K -9s); and WHEREAS, technology acquisition and equipment improvement and the addition of canines will expand and improve the operations of the Miami Police Department by enabling it to provide better services to the City's residents and visitors; and WHEREAS, this award does not require any local match; and WHEREAS, said grant is awarded for a period of four years, beginning October 1, 2008, through September 30, 2012; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The following new Special Revenue Fund is established and resources are appropriated as described below: FUND TITLE: Fiscal Year 2009 Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant Program RESOURCES: Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, National $622,722 Institute of Justice City of Miami Page I of 2 Printed On: 10/1412009 File Number: 09-01140 APPROPRIATIONS: Improve Operations of the Department of Police $622,722 Section 3. The City Manager is authorized {1} to execute the grant agreement, in substantially the attached form, and any other necessary documents in order to implement the acceptance and administration of said grant. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor. {2} APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: JULIE 04KU CITY,ATTORNEY Footnotes: (1) The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. (2) If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted.
