A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S),
ESTABLISHING A NEW SPECIAL REVENUE PROJECT ENTITLED: "FISCAL
YEAR 2009 GANG RESISTANCE EDUCATION AND TRAINING (G.R.E.A.T.)
PROGRAM," CONSISTING OF A GRANT AWARD FROM THE UNITED STATES
DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, OFFICE OF JUSTICE PROGRAMS, AND IN-KIND
SERVICES FROM THE CITY OF MIAMI POLICE DEPARTMENT, IN THE AMOUNT
OF $8,178, FOR THE REQUIRED MATCH, FOR A TOTAL AMOUNT OF $79,101;
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT SAID GRANT AWARD AND
TO EXECUTE THE GRANT AGREEMENT, IN SUBSTANTIALLY THE ATTACHED
FORM, TO IMPLEMENT THE ACCEPTANCE AND ADMINISTRATION OF SAID
GRANT.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") has been awarded a grant by the United States Department
of Justice, in the amount of $70,923, for the funding of the Gang Resistance Education and Training
(G.R.E.A.T.) Program, a life -skills competency program designed to provide students with the skills
they need to avoid gang and youth violence; and
WHEREAS, said grant funding will permit the Miami Police Department to present the G.R.E.A.T.
Program to approximately 1,100 students at elementary and middle schools, as well as to students in
summer components in order to enhance social skills and to provide the needed structure during the
summer months through presentations and field trips; and
WHEREAS, the City's required matching amount of $8,178, will be in the form of in-kind services
provided by on -duty police officers; and
WHEREAS, said grant is awarded for the period of July 1, 2009, through December 31, 2010;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by
reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The following new Special Revenue Project is established and resources are
appropriated as described below:

APPROPRIATIONS:

Section 3. The City Manager is authorized{1 } to execute the grant agreement, in substantially the
attached form, to implement the acceptance and administration of said grant.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of
the Mayor.{2}

Footnotes:
{1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be
imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter
and Code provisions.
{2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar
days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become
effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
