A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION URGING GOVERNOR
CHARLIE CRISTAND THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE TO SUPPORTA MIAMI TO
ORLANDO BULLET TRAIN AND TO ADOPT MEASURES TO SAVE TRI -RAIL FROM
DEFAULT INCLUDING THE ENACTMENT OF A TWO DOLLAR ($2) PER DAY CAR
RENTAL SURCHARGE; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF
THIS RESOLUTION TO THE ELECTED OFFICIALS STATED HEREIN.
WHEREAS, Miami -Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties account for thirty percent (30%) of
the population of the State of Florida; and
WHEREAS, the three South Florida International Airports are generally recognized as the
gateway to the Caribbean, Central America, South America, and Europe; and
WHEREAS, the Port of Miami and Port Everglades combined make South Florida the passenger
cruise capital of the world; and
WHEREAS, TRI -RAIL can accommodate increased passenger traffic with little or no incremental
costs; and
WHEREAS, TRI -RAIL can provide easy connecting service to all three of South Florida's
International Airports; and
WHEREAS, TRI -RAIL already serves a seventy two (72) mile route connecting West Palm Beach
to Miami;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by
reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The Miami City Commission urges Governor Charlie Crist and the members of the
Florida Legislature to support a Miami to Orlando bullet train and to adopt measures to save TRI -RAIL
from default including the enactment of a two dollar ($2) per day car rental surcharge.
Section 3. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Governor Charlie
Crist, Senate President Jeff Atwater, Speaker of the House Larry Cretul and the members of the
Florida Legislature.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of
the Mayor.{1 }

Enactment Number: R-09-0491
{1} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar
days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall
become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
