Purpose of Item: It is recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution establishing a new special revenue project entitled: "South Florida High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Violent Crimes and Drug Trafficking Organization" initiative and appropriating a grant award in the amount of $30,000, from the South Florida High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA); further authorizing the City Manager to designate the Chief of Police to execute the necessary documents for said purpose. No matching funds are required of the City of Miami. Background Information: On August 31; 2009, the City of Miami Police Department was notified of a grant award from the South Florida High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Violent Crimes and Drug Trafficking Organization initiative. These funds will be utilized specifically for reimbursement of overtime incurred by law enforcement officers participating in the initiative during a twelve-month period that commenced on July 21, 2009, in support of investigative efforts pertaining to "Operation Guess Who's Back."
