I. BUDGET NARRATIVE
A. Personnel $38,500.00
This budget item is for over time expenses incurred that will enable Crime Scene
Investigators (CSIs) to perform their daily workload and analyze the evidence
collected daily and forward to the lab directly rather than to Detectives for
submission. At an overtime rate of approximately $55 an hour, the CSI Unit
expects to add approximately 700 man-hours.
B. Fringe Benefits $3,950.10
Fringe benefits on overtime hours are limited to FICA, Workman's Compensation
and Unemployment Compensation.
C. Other Costs — Training $70,000.00
Training of its employees is one of the highest priorities for the MPD. Coverdell
funds will facilitate more than 2,800 hours of training in different topics to MPD
personnel. Courses will be imparted by reputable organizations with vast
experience in the CSI field such as Miami -Dade Police Department, Miami -Dade
College, and the National Forensic Academy in Tennessee. Courses and
locations may change according to the needs of the department. These courses
include but are not limited to; blood spatter interpretation, photography, crime
scene investigation, evidence processing, latent fingerprint development, forensic

mapping, crime scene reconstruction, shooting reconstruction, alternate light
sources and DNA training.
D. Indirect Cost $11,245.00
Ten percent of the total amount of a Coverdell grant may be used for direct or
indirect administrative expenses.
