AGENDA ITEM SUMMARY FORM CONTINUED
Background Information:
On February 17, 2009, the President of the United States signed the American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act of 2009 which includes the Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re -Housing
Program ("HPRP").
The HPRP is designed to provide financial assistance and services to either prevent individuals and
families from becoming homeless or help those who are experiencing homelessness to be quickly re-
housed and stabilized.
Pursuant to Resolution No. 09-0215, adopted on May 14, 2009, the Miami City Commission
approved the acceptance of HPRP funds in the amount of $3,392,918 from the United States
Department of Housing and Urban Development ("HUD").
Pursuant to Resolution No. 09-0217, adopted on May 14, 2009, the Miami City Commission
approved a substantial amendment to the City's Annual Action Plan which included an allocation of
$3,392,918 for homeless prevention and rapid re -housing for financial assistance and services.
Having HPRP program policies in place will allow the City to move forward with the implementation of
said program.
