HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-09-0424Vop City of Miami F .. , 'Ir* Legislation i 0 R �O Resolution: R-09-0424 File Number: 09-01026 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com Final Action Date: 9/10/2009 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION REQUESTING THE CITY MANAGER TO FACILITATE THE DONATION OF AN ARTIFACT FROM THE SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 WORLD TRADE CENTER DISASTER SITE; FURTHER REQUESTING THE CITY MANAGER TO TAKE ALL NECESSARY STEPS TO PAY FOR THE TRANSPORTION OF SAID ARTIFACT, INCLUDING THE IDENTIFICATION OF A FUNDING SOURCE NECESSARY FOR THE TRANSPORTATION OF THE ARTIFACT; ACCEPTING THE ARTIFACT IF CITY OF MIAMI ("CITY') OR PRIVATE FUNDS ARE USED TO ACQUIRE THE ARTIFACT FOR DONATION TO THE CITY. WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, the World Trade Center in New York City was attacked and thousands of lives were lost; and WHEREAS, a memorial is being built at the site and at various locations throughout the nation; and WHEREAS, pieces of the World Trade Center rubble from September 11, 2001 are being made available to cities, towns and organizations throughout the country to honor the memory of those lost on September 11, 2001; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager is requested to facilitate the donation of an artifact from the September 11, 2001 World Trade Center disaster site. Section 3. The City Manager is further requested to take all necessary steps to pay for the transportation of said artifact, including the identification of a funding source necessary for the transportation of the artifact. Section 3. The artifact is accepted if the City of Miami ("City") or private funds are used to acquire the artifact for donation to the City. Section 4.
