HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislationFile Number: 09-01026 City of Miami Legislation Resolution City Hall . 3500 Pan American Drive , Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION REQUESTING THE CITY MANAGER TO TAKE ALL NECESSARY STEPS TO PAY FOR THE TRANSPORT OF AN ARTIFACT FROM THE SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 WORLD TRADE CENTER DISASTER SITE, INCLUDING THE IDENTIFICATION OF A FUNDING SOURCE NECESSARY FOR SAID ACQUISITION; FURTHER ACCEPTING THE ARTIFACT IF CITY OF MIAMI ("CITY') OR PRIVATE FUNDS ARE USED TO ACQUIRE THE ARTIFACT FOR DONATION TO THE CITY. WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, the World Trade Center in New York City was attacked and thousands of lives were lost; and WHEREAS, a memorial is being built at the site and at various locations throughout the nation; and WHEREAS,' pieces of the World Trade Center rubble from September 11, 2001 are being made available to cities, towns and organizations throughout the country to honor the memory of those lost on September 11, 2001; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The.City Manager is requested to take all necessary steps to pay for the transport of an artifact from the September 11, 2001 World Trade Center disaster site, including the identification of a funding source necessary for said acquisition. Section 3. The artifact is further accepted if the City of Miami ("City") or private funds are used to acquire the artifact for donation to the City. Section 4.
