A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH
ATTACHMENT(S), AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT
FUNDS,CONSISTING OF A GRANT RECEIVED FROM THE FISCAL YEAR
2009 RECOVERY ACT EDWARD BYRNE MEMORIAL JUSTICE
ASSISTANCE GRANT AWARD, FROM THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT
OF JUSTICE, OFFICE OF JUSTICE PROGRAMS, BUREAU OF JUSTICE
ASSISTANCE, IN THE AMOUNT OF $2,562,410, TO PROVIDE FUNDING TO
HIRE ADDITIONAL POLICE CIVILIAN SUPPORT PERSONNEL AND
PURCHASE LAPTOP COMPUTERS TO ENSURE THAT SWORN LAW
ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS ARE MORE AVAILABLE ON THE STREET IN
AN EFFORT TO REDUCE AND PREVENT CRIME; AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE GRANT AGREEMENT, IN SUBSTANTIALLY
THE ATTACHED FORM, AND ANY NECESSARY DOCUMENTS IN ORDER
TO IMPLEMENT THE ACCEPTANCE AND ADMINISTRATION OF SAID
GRANT AWARD.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") has been awarded a grant, in the amount of
$2,562,410, to hire additional police civilian support personnel and purchase laptop computers to
ensure that sworn law enforcement officers are more available on the street in an effort to reduce
and prevent crime; and
WHEREAS, the job creation and equipment purchases will assist in providing more officer
accessibility and protection to the community; and
WHEREAS, this grant award does not require any local match; and
WHEREAS, said grant is awarded for a period of four years, beginning March 1, 2009,
through February 28, 2013;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are
adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The City Manager is authorized {1} to accept funds,consisting of a grant
received from the Fiscal Year 2009 Recovery Act Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance
Grant award, from the United States Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau
of Justice Assistance, in the amount of $2,562,410, to provide funding to hire additional police
civilian support personnel and purchase laptop computers to ensure that sworn law enforcement

officers are more available on the street in an effort to reduce and prevent crime.
Section 3. The City Manager is authorized {1} to execute the grant agreement, in
substantially the attached form, and any necessary documents in order to implement the
acceptance and administration of said grant award.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and
signature of the Mayor. {2}
Footnotes:
{1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be
imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City
Charter and Code provisions.
{2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten
calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it
shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
