Hernandez City Manager FROM: tefF. of Police CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM DATE: A U6 2 5 2009 SUBJECT: REFERENCES: ENCLOSURES: FILE : Emergency Item for Agenda 9/10/09 Commission Meeting The U. S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs has approved our application for funding under the FY 09 Recovery Act Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) in the amount of $2,562,410, to hire additional police civilian support personnel and purchase laptop computers. Although, this grant was awarded to us on August 11, 2009, the program period was from March 1, 2009 through February 28, 2013, of which our first report submission will be due in the first week of October. According to the grant award stipulation that, "The reports are due no later than ten calendar days after each calendar quarter in which the recipient receives the assistance award funded in whole or in part by the Recovery Act," we would like to have all documentation signed and ready to meet the reporting deadline. Failure to comply, we will be in violation of the terms of this award and may result in the loss of the grant funding. Due to the strict procedures and time constraint outlined in the acceptance of this grant, I am requesting that this item be placed on the September 10, 2009, City Commission agenda.
