HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislationA RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S), AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT FUNDING, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $11,086,850, CONSISTING OF A GRANT AWARD FROM THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, OFFICE OF COMMUNITY ORIENTED POLICING SERVICES, FOR THE COPS HIRING RECOVERY PROGRAM; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE GRANT AGREEMENT, IN SUBSTANTIALLY THE ATTACHED FORM, AND ALL NECESSARY DOCUMENTS TO IMPLEMENT THE ACCEPTANCE OF AND ADMINISTRATION OF SAID GRANT, WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") submitted a grant application to the United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, to hire seventy-five (75) officers; and WHEREAS, on August 4, 2009, the City received notification that said application was approved for funding and awarded a grant in an amount not to exceed $11,086,850, in federal funds over a three (3) year grant period, towards the salaries and fringe benefits of up to fifty (50) officers; and WHEREAS, this award does not require any local match, but the City must retain the funded positions for at least one (1) year after the grant ends; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager is authorized f 1 to accept said funding, in the amount not to exceed $11,086,850, consisting of a grant award from the United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, for the COPS Hiring Recovery Program. Section 3. The City Manager is authorized f 1 to execute the grant agreement, in substantially the attached form, and all necessary documents to implement the acceptance of and administration of said grant. Section 4. BRU CITY ATTORNEY Footnotes: {1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. {2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted.
