A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO ACCEPT A GRANT, IN THE AMOUNT OF $46,311, FROM
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS, FROM A GRANT AWARDED BY THE
FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION, TO PROVIDE SERVICES FOR THE
21 ST CENTURY COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTER MIAMI LEARNING ZONE AT
HOLMES ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, MIAMI, FLORIDA; AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE NECESSARY DOCUMENTS TO IMPLEMENT THE
ACCEPTANCE OF SAID GRANT AWARD.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") has been awarded a grant, in the amount of $46,311, from
the Florida Department of Education (71 -DOE"), for the funding of the 21 st Century Community
Learning Center Miami Learning Zone at Holmes Elementary School, Miami, Florida ("Miami's
Learning Zone"); and
WHEREAS, Miami's Learning Zone is comprised of a cooperative effort among the City's Office of
the Mayor, Holmes Elementary School and seven (7) community-based organizations for its
successful implementation; and
WHEREAS, the goals of Miami's Learning Zone are to improve health and well-being, increase
academic achievement and decrease involvement in behaviors that may put children at risk; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 05-0613, adopted November 3, 2005, the City Commission
authorized the execution of an award package to accept the 21st Century Community Learning Center
Miami Learning Zone grant at Holmes Elementary; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 06-0613, adopted October 12, 2006, the City
Commission authorized the execution of an award package to accept the 21 st Century Community
Learning Center Miami Learning Zone grant at Holmes Elementary; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 07-0443, adopted August 1, 2007, the City
Commission authorized the execution of an award package to accept the 21st Century Community
Learning Center Miami Learning Zone grant at Holmes Elementary; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 08-0485, adopted September 11, 2008, the City
Commission authorized the execution of an award package to accept the 21st Century Community
Learning Center Miami Learning Zone grant at Holmes Elementary; and
WHEREAS, the City has been awarded another grant in the amount of $46,311, to continue said
services to Holmes Elementary; and
WHEREAS, the City must execute a contract with Miami -Dade County Public Schools to accept
the appropriation;

WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 06-0613, adopted October 12, 2006, the City
Commission authorized the execution of an award package to accept the 21 st Century Community
Learning Center Miami Learning Zone grant at Holmes Elementary; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 07-0443, adopted August 1, 2007, the City
Commission authorized the execution of an award package to accept the 21st Century Community
Learning Center Miami Learning Zone grant at Holmes Elementary; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 08-0485, adopted September 11, 2008, the City
Commission authorized the execution of an award package to accept the 21st Century Community
Learning Center Miami Learning Zone grant at Holmes Elementary; and
WHEREAS, the City has been awarded another grant in the amount of $46,311, to continue said
services to Holmes Elementary; and
WHEREAS, the City must execute a contract with Miami -Dade County Public Schools to accept
the appropriation;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble of this Resolution are adopted by
reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The City Manager is authorized {1} to accept a grant, in the amount of $46,311, from
Miami -Dade County Public Schools, from FLDOE, to provide services for Miami's Learning Zone.
Section 3. The City Manager is authorized {1} to execute the necessary documents to implement
the acceptance of said grant award.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of
the Mayor. {2}

Footnotes:
{1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed
by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code
provisions.
{2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days
from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective
immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
