A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S),
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A MUTUAL AID AGREEMENT,
IN SUBSTANTIALLY THE ATTACHED FORM, BETWEEN THE CITY OF MIAMI AND
THE SCHOOL BOARD OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, TO RECEIVE AND EXTEND
MUTUAL AID IN THE FORM OF LAW ENFORCEMENT SERVICES AND
RESOURCES TO ENSURE PUBLIC SAFETY AND ADEQUATELY RESPOND TO
INTENSIVE SITUATIONS, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO NATURAL AND
MANMADE DISASTERS OR EMERGENCIES AS DEFINED IN PART 1, CHAPTER
23, OF THE FLORIDA STATUTES.
WHEREAS, because of the existing and continuing possibility of the occurrence of law
enforcement problems and other natural and man-made conditions which are, or are likely to be,
beyond the control of the services, personnel, equipment, or facilities of the City of Miami ("City")
Department of Police or the School Board of Miami -Dade County ("School Board"); and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest and advantage of the City and the School Board to
receive and extend mutual aid to each other in the form of law enforcement services and resources;
and
WHEREAS, the City and the School Board have the authority in Part 1, Chapter 23, of the
Florida Statutes, under the Florida Mutual Aid Act, to enter into a mutual aid agreement;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted
by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The City Manager is authorized{1} to execute a Mutual Aid Agreement, in
substantially the attached form, between the City and the School Board, to receive and extend mutual
aid in the form of law enforcement services and resources to ensure public safety and adequately
respond to intensive situations, including, but not limited to, natural or manmade disasters or
emergencies as defined in Part 1, Chapter 23, of the Florida Statutes.
Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature
of the Mayor.{2}

{1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be
imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter
and Code provisions
{2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar
days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become
effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
