A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION EXPANDING THE SCOPE i1.J W Q
AND COMPOSITION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI VETERANS' ASSISTANCE
PROGRAM GROUP, CREATED PURSUANT TO RESOLUTION NO. 06-0323,
ADOPTED MAY 25, 2006, TO INCLUDE MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY TO J

WHEREAS,
WHEREAS, men and women serve in the armed forces of the United States to defend and protect
the liberties of America; and
WHEREAS, upon completion of their service time, some men and women are unable to secure
meaningful employment; and
WHEREAS, some of these men and women experience poverty, an inability to re -adapt to their
pre -service life or lifestyle and a high rate of homelessness and need assistance with housing; and
WHEREAS, throughout the City of Miami wide ranging issues confront returning veterans but in
particular, returning veterans from District Five face uniquely impacting burdens; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 06-0323, adopted May 25, 2006, the City Commission
created the City of Miami Veterans' Assistance Program Group ("Program Group") which consisted of
City of Miami ("City") personnel; and
WHEREAS, it is imperative that the Program Group continues to identify and advise on the various
community resources available; and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the City and veterans to include members of the community
to make recommendations concerning housing, employment and social integration for veterans;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by
reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The City Manager is authorized {1} to expand the scope and composition of the City's
Veterans' Assistance Program Group, created pursuant to Resolution No. 06-0323, adopted May 25,
2006, to make recommendations concerning veterans consisting of no more than nine (9) members as
outlined by this resolution.
Section 3. The City's Veterans' Assistance Program Group is authorized (1) to select a Chair to
make recommendations on how to address the problem of veteran employment, homelessness, social
integration and any other related issues.

Section 4. The City Manager is further authorized {1} to appoint individuals from organizations,
such as those listed below, but not limited to those listed below, to the City's Veterans' Assistance
Program Group:
1 -United States Department of Veterans Affairs,
2 -The American Red Cross;
3 -Veterans of Foreign Wars;
4 -City of Miami Equal Employment Advisory Board
Section 5. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of
the Mayor.{2}

Footnotes:
{1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be
imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter
and Code provisions.
{2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days
from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become
effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
