Emergency Services Academy
The City of Miami Fire Rescue Department - Miami Dade County Schools
Emergency Services Academy is a public service educational academy that provide
academic, career and technical education in Emergency Medical Services.
This instructional program follows the guidelines of the Florida Department of
Education. The content will include all of the basic Emergency Medical skills and
knowledge and should prepare the student for the Emergency Medical Technician
certification examination approved by the State of Florida. The program will be
conducted at Miami Edison Sr. high school and taught by City of Miami Fire Fighters
who are certified as Paramedics.
Students enrolled in the EMS Academy must successfully pass all written and practical
skills examinations.
Class work requires reading and comprehension of rigorous technical material, and
completion of daily and homework assignments.
EMS Academy Cadet personnel will be issued uniforms which will be worn at all times
while in the EMS Academy.
We are currently recruiting at our target school Miami Edison Sr. High while we await
program approval from the Florida Department of Education.
We are anticipating a class of 25 - 30 students for our inaugural year.
