Thompson City Clerk Date: May 22, 2009 Subject: Mayor's International Council References: June 10, 2009 Agenda Enclosures: The Mayor's International Council was created to (1) plan and implement the City's International Trade promotion policies for the purposes of stimulating commercial and residential development and expanding the City's tax base through the promotion of foreign trade and local investment in accordance with the bylaws adopted by the Council; (2) serve in an advisory capacity for the City of Miami Sister Cities Program to plan, implement, and oversee the City's international, professional, and technical educational and cultural exchanges, promotion and policies to create and stimulate friendly and meaningful relationships; and (3) coordinate protocol requirements for national and international events and dignitaries pursuant to the standard and practices adopted by the Council. Two (2) appointments are required at this time: • Commissioner Gonzalez has one (1) appointment for a seat currently held by: 1. Ruben Valdez, incumbent, whose term expired on April 22, 2009.* • Mayor Diaz has one (1) appointment for a seat currently held by: 1. Vacancy (Julian Linares, incumbent, was appointed to a Commission -at -Large seat on May 14, 2009). For your convenience, we are including a copy of the current membership list of the council. By copy of this memorandum, we are requesting that the Agenda Office place this issue on the June 11, 2009 Commission agenda. * This matter was deferred from the May 14, 2009 Commission meeting.
