HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislation(;17, City of Miami City Hal' 3500 Pan American Drive A Miami, FL 33133 Legislation %� �,.- �,�•�;' www.miamigov.com Resolution File Number: 09-00563 Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF A GRANT FROM THE SOUTHEAST OVERTOWN/PARK WEST AND OMNI REDEVELOPMENT DISTRICT COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCIES ("CRAS"), IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $344,000, TO UNDERWRITE THE COST OF A POLICE VISIBILITY PROGRAM FOR THE SOUTHEAST OVERTOWN/PARK WEST AND OMNI REDEVELOPMENT DISTRICT COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCIES' DISTRICTS; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXCEPT THE GRANT AGREEMENT AND ALL DOCUMENTS NECESSARY FOR SAID PURPOSE. WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") is responsible for public safety throughout the City, which includes the Southeast Overtown/Park West ("SEOPW") and Omni Redevelopment District ("Omni") Community Redevelopment Agencies' ("CRAs") districts; and WHEREAS, the Redevelopment Plans for SEOPW and Omni CRAs emphasize, among others, crime prevention and maintenance of security in its areas as stated redevelopment objectives; and WHEREAS, in April 2009 the City requested a grant from SEOPW and Omni CRAs to underwrite the cost associated with the operation of a Police Visibility Program to assist the CRAs in its stated redevelopment objectives; and WHEREAS, on April 27, 2009, The Board of Commissioners of the SEOPW and Omni CRAs passed Resolution No. 09-0022 authorizing an award of a grant, in an amount not to exceed $344,000, to the City to underwrite the cost associated with the operation of a Police Visibility Program in the redevelopment areas; and WHEREAS, the CRA authorized the grant to be disbursed on a reimbursement basis or directly to vendors upon presentation of invoices and satisfactory documentation; and WHEREAS, the Miami City Commission wishes to accept said grant; and WHEREAS, Resolution No. 07-0165, adopted March 22, 2007, requires City Commission approval for any grant award exceeding $25,000; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The acceptance of a grant from the SEOPW and Omni CRAs, in an amount not to exceed $344,000, to underwrite the cost of a Police Visibility Program for the SEOPW and Omni CRAs City of Miami Page 1 of 2 Printed On: 5/20/2009 File Number.' 09-00563 districts, is authorized. Section 3. The City Manager is authorized{1} to execute the grant agreement and all documents necessary for said purpose. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.{2} APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: JULIE O. BRU CITY ATTORNEY Footnotes: {1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. {2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted.
