HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislationFile dumber: 09-00506 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 vvvmmamigov.com Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S), ESTABLISHING A NEW SPECIAL REVENUE PROJECT ENTITLED: "SUMMER FOOD SERVICE PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN 2009" AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS FOR THE OPERATION OF THE SAME, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $500,000, CONSISTING OF A GRANT FROM THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE THROUGH THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE AGREEMENT, IN SUBSTANTIALLY THE ATTACHED FORM, AND ALL NECESSARY DOCUMENTS TO IMPLEMENT THE ACCEPTANCE OF SAID GRANT, FOR THE PROVISION OF LUNCHES AND SNACKS TO THE PARTICIPANTS OF THE CITY OF MIAMI'S 2009 SUMMER FOOD SERVICE PROGRAM, OPERATED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION. WHEREAS, the City of Miami's ("City") Department of Parks and Recreation sponsors a Summer Food Service Program for children which provides nutritional meals in conjunction with its comprehensive recreational program; and WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Education, Food and Nutrition Management Division ("DOE"), with the United States Department of Agriculture ("USDA"), grants projects in the estimated amount not to exceed $500,000, to conduct a summer food service program from June, 2009 through August, 2009 for children up to the age of 18; and WHEREAS, the City has applied for a DOE grant this year and, if awarded, the DOE grant shall be an amount not to exceed $500,000, based on year 2009 figures and the reimbursement rates of $2.75 per lunch and $.64 per snack include the respective reimbursement rates for operation and administrative costs; and WHEREAS, through the Summer Food Service Program, the City will be able to serve approximately 176,475 lunches and 181,350 supplements during the project period starting June, 2009 and ending August, 2009; and WHEREAS, an estimated amount not to exceed $500,000 will be received from the State for Florida for carrying out said program; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager is authorized{1} to execute the Agreement, in substantially the attached form, and all necessary documents to implement the acceptance of said grant for said program. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.{2} APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: JULIE 0. BRU CITY ATTORNEY Footnotes: {1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. {2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted.
