The Equal Opportunity Advisory Board was created to review and recommend to the City Commission the
adoption of amendments/revisions to the City's affirmative action plan. The board also reviews employment
policies and practices of the City and makes recommendations to the Department of Employee Relations.
Seven (7) appointments are required at this time:
• Chair Sanchez has two (2) nominations for seats currently held by:
1. Rebeca Alvarez -Mena, incumbent, whose term expired July 12, 2007, has exceeded
the number of allowed absences (8 absences in 2007), and would require a 4/5ths
waiver of attendance.*
2. Vacancy (seat formerly held by Sam Mason).
• Vice Chair Spence -Jones has two (2) nominations for seats currently held by:
1. Anthony Cutler, incumbent, whose term expired March 12, 2009, has exceeded the
number of allowed absences (4 in 2008), and would require a 4/5ths waiver of
attendance.
2. Charles Flowers, incumbent, whose term expires May 7, 2009, has served since
4/26/01, exceeding Code term limits, and would require a term waiver by a
unanimous (5/5ths) vote by the City commission.
• Commissioner Gonzalez has one (1) nomination for a seat currently held by:
1. Vacancy (Miriam Urra appointed to a separate seat).
• Commissioner Regalado has one (1) nomination for a seat currently held by:
1. Aurelus Dorvil, incumbent, whose term expires May 7, 2009.
• The Commission -at -Large has one (1) confirmation:
1. Viona Brown, incumbent representative of the Fraternal Order of Police, whose term
expires May 7, 2009.
For your convenience, we are including a copy of the current membership of said board. By copy of this
memorandum, we are requesting the Agenda Office to place this issue on the May 14, 2009 Commission
agenda. *This matter was deferred from the June 14, 2007, September 11, 2007, October 11, 2007,
November 9, 2007, January 10, 2008, February 14, 2008, March 13, 2008, April 10, 2008, July 10,
2008, September 11, 2008, October 16, 2008, November 13, 2008, December 11, 2008, January 15,
2009, February 12, 2009, March 12, 2009 and April 2, 2009 Commission meetings.
