RE: BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT BOUNDARY DISTRICT
This is an important message for you as a property owner on Biscayne
Boulevard. It is a signal that positive change is coming. In order for
change to happen, it is vital for property owners between 65th and 82nd
Street become involved and aware of the positive actions taking place
that will create a BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT (BID) on the Boulevard.
The boundary is an initial study area. The final product will be to draw a
boundary approved by the property owners with in. The purpose of a BID
is to clean, secure and promote the Biscayne Boulevard's commercial
district.
In December 2008, a MIMO BIC STEERING COMMITTEE (BIC) formed to
include property owners, business owners, city staff, a consulting team
and neighborhood residents. The Steering Committee meets on a regular
basis. Their goal is to understand the needs on the Boulevard; to educate
property owners and the public about the benefits of a BID; and to finalize
the BID's boundaries.
To date, we have incorporated the MIMO BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT
COMMITTEE, Inc. for this purpose. We have approved a mission
statement for the District; we have met with various city departments to
determine a base line of services currently provided by the city for
security, sanitation and promotion; and we have studied various
boundary configurations to include in the BID. The City of Miami has
allocated funds for MiMo BIC, Inc. to hire a Director. The Director will work
full-time with property owners to bring the BID to fruition.
At our last meeting, we explored the above -referenced boundary to
begin an INITIAL STUDY AREA. The concept will need to be voted upon by
the property owners in the area once the needs of the district are
assessed and the costs are considered. The Committee and its new
