A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, PURSUANT TO SECTION
18-82 (A) OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS AMENDED,
CLASSIFYING A DOG STATUE LOCATED IN THE OFFICE OF COMMISSIONER
MARC SARNOFF, AS CATEGORY "A" SURPLUS STOCK AND DONATING SAID
STATUE TO THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF GREATER MIAMI, A 501 (3) (C)
NON-PROFIT, CHARITABLE ANIMAL WELFARE ORGANIZATION, UPON THE
EXECUTION OF THE APPROPRIATE RELEASE DOCUMENTS.
WHEREAS, the Office of Commissioner Marc Sarnoff has declared a dog statue located in his
office as a surplus stock; and
WHEREAS, the Chief Procurement Officer has also declared said statue as surplus stock; and
WHEREAS, Section 18-82 (a), of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida, as amended ("City
Code"), entitled "Disposal of Surplus city -owned personal property," states that a surplus declared as
Category "A" stock shall be available for disposition as the City of Miami's ("City's") contribution or the
City's commitment in support of a particular public purpose, which may include those community civic
or social service programs as may be authorized by the City Commission; and
WHEREAS, not-for-profit organizations which provide a public purpose shall be offered first
consideration as recipients for the disposition of Category "A" surplus stock; and
WHEREAS, the Humane Society of Greater Miami is a not-for-profit organization that operates
a "no kill" facility, which means dogs and cats are kept for as long as it takes, until a new home is
found; and
WHEREAS, no euthanizing of healthy or physically treatable dogs or cats possessing
non-aggressive behavior occurs in its facility; and
WHEREAS, the organization also performs low cost spaying and neutering; and
WHEREAS, the Humane Society of Greater Miami is entirely funded through donations, grants,
and fundraising activities and receives no funding from government agencies or financial assistance
from any other animal welfare organization; and
WHEREAS, Commissioner Sarnoff visited the Humane Society of Greater Miami located at
16101 West Dixie Highway, Miami, Florida, and witnessed the dogs and cats being treated humanely
by the center's employees and volunteers; and
WHEREAS, the Miami City Commission authorizes the donation of the Category "A" surplus
stock, dog statue, to the Humane Society of Greater Miami, in support of its particular public purpose

in providing quality animal services to the general public and gesture that people of the City of Miami
appreciate all the work and services performed;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted
by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. Pursuant to Section 18-82 (a) of the City Code, a dog statue located in the Office
of Commissioner Marc Sarnoff, is classified as Category "A" surplus stock.
Section 3. The dog statue is donated to the Humane Society of Greater Miami, a 501 (3) (c)
non-profit, charitable animal welfare organization, upon the execution of the appropriate release
documents.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature
of the Mayor. {1}

Footnotes:
{1} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days
from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become
effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
