Law Department Commission Meeting Date: 03/26/2009 District Impacted: 2 Matter ID No. Type: ® Resolution E]Ordinance E]Emergency Ordinance ElDiscussion Item 09-365 ❑ Other Subject: Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND) Grant Application for the Marine Stadium Marina Seawall Replacement - Phase I Purpose of Item: A Resolution of the Miami City Commission, with attachments, authorizing the City Manager to submit an application for grant funding to the Florida Inland Navigation District ("FIND") Waterways Assistance Program, in substantially the attached form, in an amount not to exceed $35,000, for the Marine Stadium Marina Seawall Replacement Project - Phase I ("Project"); authorizing the allocation of the City of Miami's required matching funds for fifty percent (50%) of the project costs, in an amount not to exceed $17,500, from Capital Improvement Project 13#30595, entitled "Marine Stadium Marina Seawall Replacement Project - Phase I"; authorizing the City Manager to execute any other necessary documents for the submission of said grant application for fiscal year 2009-2010. Background Information: The Department of Public Facilities is seeking authorization to apply for $17,500 in grant funding from the Florida Inland Navigation District for design, engineering, permitting, and other professional services for the Marine Stadium Marina Seawall Replacement Project - Phase f, which will replace approximately 390 linear feet of seawall along Biscayne Bay on Virginia Key. The total estimated cost of this phase of the project is not to exceed $35,000. The existing seawall on Virginia Key is over 40 years old and in a state of advanced deterioration. The seawall has cracked and settled in several locations. The existing seawall supports operations at the Marine Stadium Marina. Marine Stadium Marina is one of South Florida's largest full-service dry storage facilities; the 300 berth marina is capable of handling vessels up to 45 feet with a gross vessel weight of 18,000 pounds.
