Grant Application for the James L. Knight Center Riverwalk Seawall Replacement Project - Phase I Purpose of Item: A Resolution of the Miami City Commission, with attachments, authorizing the City Manager to submit an application for grant funding to the Florida Inland Navigation District ("FIND") Waterways Assistance Program, in substantially the attached form, in an amount not to exceed $60,000, for the Knight Center Seawall Replacement – Phase I Project ("Project"); authorizing the allocation of the required matching funds for fifty percent (50%) of the project costs, in an amount not to exceed $30,000, to be provided by the Public Facilities Special Revenue Fund (Account Number 10100.221070.534000); authorizing the City Manager to execute any other necessary documents for the submission of said grant application for fiscal year 2009-2010. Background Information: The Department of Public Facilities is seeking City Commission authorization to apply for $30,000 in grant funding from the Florida Inland Navigation District for design, engineering, permitting, and other professional services for the James L. Knight Center Riverwalk Seawall Replacement Project - Phase I, which will replace and/or repair approximately 700 linear feet,of seawall adjacent to the Miami River. The existing seawall in is in a state of advanced deterioration due to age and harsh environmental conditions. There are two noticeable cracks and possible lateral movement with various stages of deterioration along the seawall, The existing seawall supports the Riverwalk area located immediately outside of the James L. Knight Center and the associated docking capabilities. This public shoreline stabilization project will support the public access walkway along the Miami River.
